What is the difference?
You have a D300, a DX (smaller imager) size Nikon camera. If you had a D3, it would be a FX, Full Frame (as in 35mm) size imager. Only FX lenses work on FX and DX cameras, but DX will only effectively work on DX camera's or you get vignetting.
