When we finally got into Viera....

Discussion in 'Birds' started by Backdoctor, Oct 29, 2005.

  1. it got tougher as we had so many more things to choose from.....

    some Sandhills stopped by:
    NIKON D2H    ---    420mm    f/7.1    1/1000s    ISO 320

a gator popped up to see us:
    NIKON D2H    ---    420mm    f/5.6    1/1250s    ISO 320

    the mayor was in:
    NIKON D2H    ---    420mm    f/5.6    1/1250s    ISO 400

    a greenie was hunting:
    NIKON D2H    ---    420mm    f/6.3    1/500s    ISO 400

    some spoonbills stopped by:
    NIKON D2H    ---    420mm    f/7.1    1/3000s    ISO 400

and on the way out, another raptor was nearby:
    NIKON D2H    ---    420mm    f/6.3    1/500s    ISO 400

Too bad I only get there once in a while, as it's a 1.5hr drive each way. Harry, well, he's my hero. Retired, and shooting at will..
  2. The Spoonbills are one of my favorites. I love their beaks and their pretty pink feathers. Thanks for sharing.

Holy Schnikees, Batman, what a bounty! Great weather too! What rig did you have for all these? You use your new tripod setup? If you don't mind me saying, the last shot of the Hawk is a little soft, not quite up to the sharpness of the others. why is that? Is that one handheld and soft from the fatique of shooting all day? Conversely, that little Greenie, with it's shallow dof and razor sharpness, is practically bustin out of my monitor!
  5. Very very nice...thanks for sharing.

  6. Very nice Harris. Brings back some wonderful memories, especially the Spoonbill (although I only remember seeing them at Merritt Island, not Vierra).

Thanks for posting, despite the mental torment that it may cause...

  7. Every shot taken with the low res D2H, peashooter 300 f4 with 1.4x and all handheld to boot. No tripod, monopod or pod of any type.
  8. Thanks Melissa, Bohdan and Dave, maybe you guys will join us down here sometime. Harry tells me from Nov thru Feb it's just flush with birdies.

Oh Frank, you can come and play too.....

Excellent shots Harris. You seem to have managed to get some keepers today.

I had a great time and look forward to us getting together again. Sorry it was a bit slow today.

All great shots, Harris. I especially like the GBH portrait. What glass did you use, dow close did you get and how much cropping did you use?

ps. Why won't they let me get that close? Do you have some kind of magic GBH spray?

Nice shots Harris. I'm looking forward to shooting these guys next month. Whatever you're paying them, keep on doing it, or give them a raise. :)
