obvious answer is the 14-24mm but more realisticly speaking..

which cheaper< $600 option is the lowest distortion at 17 or 18mm?

Nikon, sigma, or tamrom, dosent matter, just glass performance.

im including nikon 18-55mm all versions, tamron 17-50mm, sigma 10-20, hmmm anything with wide enough angle to be around 17-18mm ...

    any thoughts?

if i had to pick i would say the sigma is probly the one with lowest distortion, what about you guys?

both the sigma 10-20 and 12-24 have very little distortion. the nikon 16-85VR also has little distortion at 18mm (and upward).

avoid all the 18-xx lenses. they are simply bad at 18mm, tons of distortion.
  3. The Sigma 12-24 has basically no optical distortion. The 10-20 has less than most of its competition, but it's still visible if you look for it. The Sigma 12-24's just not there unless you have test equipment. It has other issues, though, such as being horrible about flare.
