Which lens to shoot a close up osprey nest?

Discussion in 'Lens Lust' started by Anthony747, Jun 26, 2007.

  1. On Friday my local park service will be banding two juvenile ospreys. I’ll be shooting the juvenile ospreys in their nest before the banding by climbing up to their nest (see the photos below).

My question is what lens to shoot with, as you can see I’ll be right on top of them, I was thinking my Nikkor 12-24mm would be my best choice since I’ll be so close. I also have the Nikkor 35mm, 50mm 1.8 and 18-70mm kit lens. My D200 is at Nikon service so I’ll be shooting my back up D70.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

I'd be using that 35/2 personally. Nice perspective, close focus, sharp as a knife stopped down a bit.

Nice opportunity you have here - enjoy!
