Which zoom lens are best for the buck?

Steven, mind to share what you weren't doing properly?

Idealy the 70-300VR needs to be stopped down from f8 to f11 to be in the "Sweet Spot" over 200mm
and you must keep the shutter speed up... If you don't have enough light to do that then you need to push ISO up

That's it. Fast shutter speed (double focal length at least). I usually use 1/400sec at a minimum, and 1/800sec for 300mm. Stop it down to f/8 to f/11, and like wizard said, bump up the ISO to maintain those settings depending on light. Turns out great images at 300 that way.

Hi guys,

After researching, I have another question: Is that the Nikkor 70-300 VR has sharpness issue at 250- 300mm?

With my 70-300VR, I have more issue with an ineffective VR at 250-300 rather than a sharpness issue, but sharpness is still pretty good when it nails it in that focal range. As a comparison, my Tammy 18-270 VC nails it most of the time with a more effective VC between 250-270 but it looses sharpness. Just my experience.
