White-crowned Pigeon

    This past weekend, I came upon a small colony of White-crowned Pigeons, a bird previously unknown to me. Researching further, the descriptions I subsequently read that describe them as "skittish" don't nearly do justice to how hard I found them to approach (the photo below is a pretty substantial crop). As I understand, it's another boid found in the US only here in extreme south Florida. I don't think there have been any prior pix of one posted here on NC --
