Why didn't I get a D700 earlier....

I have been getting used to it for a week now and customized it with:
-back AF button focusing
-Liveview on Fn
-horizon level on Preview
-Auto ISO, Auto flash sync... a few other things.
I also got the grip and an SB400 flash to "travel light" (instead of my SB700).
It is so easy to use and it does what I expect it to do, the controls are a marvel of simplicity.
I had to invest in a remote control (which happens to work on my F90X - bonus), some good CF cards, a CF card reader, the USB cable and the AC charger.
The good Nikon lenses are out of my reach but even the 35mm lenses I have work fine on the D700, the series E, the AF-Ds...
It is all great fun.
I seriously am considering selling my brand new D7200 and my DX lenses.
I did not expect the D700 to be such a great camera.
Unfortunately due to the storm here I have not been out as I had planned.
But next week holiday to Geneva and Chamonix, my plan is to take the D700 and maybe the Bronica ETRSi, but that is not travelling light at all....

I too was looking at a D750 to replace my D7200.
BUT, the cost (and weight) of the FX lenses knocked some cents into me, or maybe it was dollars. And I could not press the [Buy] button.
Yes the weight and price of lenses are a problem.
I was going in the completely opposite direction, mirrorless etc...
But the D700 is as much fun as using film, and I got no enjoyment from mirrorless.
That's just me....

My D700 was a workhorse for years. You are correct. It is simplistic, yet powerful.

I loved using my legacy AF-D lenses in it. The 28-85 being one. The 70-210 is also a great lens too.

I’m glad you are enjoying the D700.
