This particular day was very windy! You can see by the texture on the water surface that it is not calm

While continuing on home, I happened to see a large flock of gulls roosting on the sand. But within that flock was another flock, a little shorter in stature, with black backs & heads and red bills. I investigated, assuming they would be Terns but it turned out to be Black Skimmers. So on my belly I go! Note the grains of sand flying under their legs ...

A Black Skimmer throws his head back in laughter. Apparently a human lying in a sandstorm taking pictures is their idea of funny.

Willet shots: Afternoon, 300mm + TC 1.7 @ 1/1000, f/7.1, ISO 200, monopod.
Skimmer shots: Evening, 300mm + TC 1.7 @ 1/400, f/7.1, ISO 200, hand resting on sand used as tripod ... er, hand-pod.

Excellent images
Enjoyed them
Laughing and all:>))
Thanks Gale, they thought I was funny and I thought they were funny.

Beautful photos. The water detail on the first one is lovely.
Hunter, I appreciate you taking the time to comment on the which and why, thanks!

Dig the lighting. Nice shots.
Thanks Thomas! The wind was a bear though, not a good day for any contact lens wearers ...

These images are really excellent!!! Love the skimmer with the sand they are such odd looking birds when thye are not flying and so greceful when they are, like transformed!
Andréas, thanks so much for your kind comments. You have described it well and isn't that the truth? They certainly do have an awkward stature on land but boy oh boy can they perform a smooth (and fast!) water ballet by sea.

I haven't seen them skimming in a while though; will have to seek them out in calmer weather.

Great work all around.
Thanks Robert, that's nice of you to say.

Beautiful work!
Thanks Dave! Don't eat too much at the get-together now! Be polite and leave some food for others.
