This particular day was very windy! You can see by the texture on the water surface that it is not calm Western Willet #1 #2 #3 While continuing on home, I happened to see a large flock of gulls roosting on the sand. But within that flock was another flock, a little shorter in stature, with black backs & heads and red bills. I investigated, assuming they would be Terns but it turned out to be Black Skimmers. So on my belly I go! Note the grains of sand flying under their legs ... #4 A Black Skimmer throws his head back in laughter. Apparently a human lying in a sandstorm taking pictures is their idea of funny. #5 Willet shots: Afternoon, 300mm + TC 1.7 @ 1/1000, f/7.1, ISO 200, monopod. Skimmer shots: Evening, 300mm + TC 1.7 @ 1/400, f/7.1, ISO 200, hand resting on sand used as tripod ... er, hand-pod.
