I went for a drive down to Wilsons Prom yesterday with the D750 and 24-120 f/4.0 in tow.

At the southernmost tip of mainland Australia, it offers spectacular scenery of huge granite mountains, open forest, rainforest, sweeping beaches and coastlines.

Great bushwalks extend from under an hour to over three days. Visitors can camp, caravan or stay in huts, cabins, wilderness retreats or lodges at Tidal River where there is a general store and take-away food shop.

Wilsons Promontory Lightstation is perched on a small peninsula jutting into the wild seas of Bass Strait.

The waters surrounding the Prom are protected as a marine national park and marine park and offer outstanding diving.

Whisky Bay is a small sheltered beach with rock formations at each end.

The Big Drift is a huge area of sand dunes sculptured by the wind and rain and offering dazzling views. The Big Drift is surrounded by colonizing plant species, which are then enclosed by forest. On the walk there especially watch for owls, you could see black swamp wallabies, wombats, egg laying echidna, and if you are very quiet hog deer. What you are unlikely to see is another human!

An extensive series of inland sand dunes. It’s easy to get lost in Big Drift. On windy days your tracks will be quickly erased. Be careful to mark your path to find the track out again.

Very nice. Where are all the people? No footprints, no tracks. Beautiful spot! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you!

To get to The Big Drift is a 2km hike along a bush clad track, then you face a 50+ft clamber up the side of the sand to gain access to the first tier. After that is is the lovely rolling dunes as can be seen in the photos. There were 5 of us on this photowalk, and Max, who can be seen in both images 3&5, gives some perspective to the size of the dunes.

We have dunes like that here, but the State sells dune buggy permits and it's almost always has the off road vehicles driving around. There are also several businesses that have permits to drive across some of the area, I like your view much better.

Great pictures of what looks like a fantastic place.

Thank you both

Apparently these aren't visited by too many people, I guess the trek to get to them probably puts a few off

A couple more from The Big Drift
