WOW, the pictures here are AMAZING

  1. I'm embarrassed to post this from my now dead powershot, but I wonder if someone could ID this for me. It sat on this flower most of the day and didn't fly off even when I touched it to see if it was alive even.

  5. It is a dragonfly.....possible from the Darner family....due to it's thinner abdomen and eyes that touch.....maybe a mosaic. Just a guess...

    Suborder Anisoptera (Dragonflies)
    Family Aeshnidae (Darners)
    Genus Aeshna (Mosaic Darners)

    Certainly not an expert in American dragonflies. Looks a bit like our Aeshna grandis. Could it be a Aeshna umbrosa (Shadow darner)?
