Yet another hike near Berlin [image heavy!]

Discussion in 'Wanderlust and Travel' started by DanielD, Jul 29, 2009.

  1. As the wheather forecast was promising, I decided for another hike near Berlin last sunday, starting in Wiesenburg and heading to Belzig (~20km).

I stepped out of the train directly into mother nature with lots of wild flowers blooming:

I feared this way I would never make 20km that day so I started my way heading for the palace of Wiesenburg

Near the palace's entry I spotted an old chimney with a stork nest on it, with one stork (I suppose one of the youngster's) practicing to hover over the nest in the wind.

I left Wiesenburg and enjoyed the view over corn and rye fields

Near the next village Schlamau, I ran into these friendly horses:

The next viallage Schmerwitz looked a bit spooky because half of the viallage appeared abandoned, but with larger representative houses

Not very seldom it turnes out that those rather large but abandoned parts/complexes were used by Soviet forces until 1990 and were left unused since then. Maybe I'll find something in the net.

At the village limit I had fun with some sheep. I somehow like them and was happy to find some on my hike.

Of course I was suspiciously watched by the whole gang.

Near my destination I saw this horse-drawn vehicle at the end of the street, so I waited a minute for it to take a snap. The guy smiled and seemed to be happy to have a picture taken of him and his horses. That's not something that can be taken for granted these days.

    I left nature here ...

I hope you enjoyed the walk.

  2. I enjoyed it very much, Daniel. Very nicely photographed and reported.

Again, I envy you having these walks available.

But of course, you don't live four miles from the Appalachian Trail as I do.
