you get what you pay for....the 400vr

Discussion in 'Lens Lust' started by Randy, Sep 6, 2008.

  1. the lens is so large the windy weather we had (from Hana) actually moved the lens. The Gitzo 3551 is perfect. The
MH-01's tension knob has to be used to be believed. I can actually let go of the 400VR + D300 + grip and it doesn't move....simply amazing device.

And the 400, yes it's pretty nice also...
I have had it for 15 days and I had to shoot it today (or bust) so this is game1, 12pm, a time that I never shoot soccer...I'm headed back out for a 4:30pm game where the sun is much lower.
AF speed on the 400 is one of those 'you get what you pay for-s'....

Here's a few pics, crop & USM only. I'll post the good action shots tomm in the sports gallery

    All shot at f2.8, ISO200, ev=-.3

    full frame, no crop

  2. Excellent shots, Randy. I just went a little nuts, and bought both the 14-24 and 24-70, which I figured would just about complete my lens collection -- until I see these shots. Now I have another lens to lust after! (Well, that and the 200 f/2 ) .

What USM settings are you using?

    Nice lens, but great hands.
