One of my most used lenses was the 35-70 f2.8 D. Used initially on my N90 film camera and later on the D100 and D200, continue to use it on the D800 as I never saw the need to replace it with the 24-70 f2.8. You did have to watch out for flare but with lens hood and being careful still produces wonderful images. Below D200 with the 35-70 f2.8 D at 35mm (52mm equivilant) with a black mist filter to help soften somewhat at f8 1/100 and iso 100 under studio strobe and 7ft Octa.

Micro-Nikkor 60 2.8 D. Seems to find it’s way onto the D850 all the time as my normal Walk-around lens. IQ is fabulous. Need to wait a few minutes to run focus from infinity to 1:1 macro .

200mm f4 micro. I've probably taken more pictures with this lens than any other one I have.

My D lenses are:
28-105/3.5-4.5 Excellent as a walk round or travel lens
80-200/2.8 (Push/pull) Excellent image quality but heavy !!
35/2 Mine is excellent
24/2.8 I like it but it doesn't blow me away
35-70/2.8 Not used now due to haze build up in the middle elements
50/1.8 Great images but looks a bit plasticy on the D800 :)

My list: 24mm f2.8D; 35mm f2D; 105mm f2DC; 135mm f2DC. The 24mm is out on loan to a nephew because I have the 24mm f1.4G but also because I wasn't too sure about results from the former. He had nothing in that range so at least it's getting some use. I do enjoy my 35mm and have no complaints - in fact I think it is an underrated lens and it is the one I take with me on travels for low light situations. The two DC lenses are my favourites but I'm not yet sure if I prefer one above the other. I've only had the 105 for a few months but am really liking the results. At this moment in time I'm not persuaded to change my D750 or D500 for mirrorless so D lenses remain on my list of "wannahaves". There are two I would still really like to own - the 28mm f1.4 and the 70-180 macro. Needless to say, prices of both would afford me a very nice mirrorless camera, Nikon or not!

80-200/2.8D

Only got rid of it because I had some applications where VR was needed.

Is there a reason it should not count?

Just the fact it wasn't mentioned yet made me doubt :)
And I believe it can still be bought new.
Only recently taken out of production (2019?)
