Youth Baseball...

Discussion in 'Sports Photography' started by gnagel, Jun 12, 2018.

  1. I went to watch my cousin play in a Bronco (11 & 12 year olds) baseball game last night. The fencing was quite high around the entire park (including the outfield) and I was not permitted inside the fencing, so I was restricted to shooting from just a couple of narrow vantage points.

The quality of play in this recreational game leaves a bit to be desired, so there was very little action to shoot...it was mostly walks. There were no close plays on the bases.

In any event, it was fun to shoot and the players seemed to be enjoying themselves. Here are some pictures from the game (all with the D850):

Also, I usually like to get low to the ground when shooting baseball. The only access I had was from elevated stands. The advantage of being a little higher was that it was easier to control the backgrounds.

    Thanks for looking...

Sounds like a nice outing with the chance to do a little casual shooting! Good set considering your limitation and the lack of exciting plays.

  3. Considering the logistical constraints, at least you didn't also have to deal with harsh light. Fun set of photos!

  4. It was fun to see my cousin play...and the photography helped make the event more enjoyable for me.
Very true...I like the overcast conditions for baseball. Caps with bills shading faces are not ideal for harsh sunlight!

I don't mind the angle the view, certainly cuts down on any distracting background.

  6. Great series. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Thank you, Russ...that was certainly an advantage. The background was dominated by the ground (and grass).
    Thanks Jim
