Z7 white balance PRE-set not working

I have a Z7 (firmware 3.11). I just tried measuring a white balance using : White balance > PRE: Preset manual. But after selecting "d-1" ,say, I could not get the flashing mark that indicates the camera is ready to take a picture of a white object. I did this before and it worked then (It was maybe Version 2.00). I just tried today and it did not work on my Ver. 3.00, so I just updated to Ver. 3.11. It is still not working.... It's broken?? Anyone has any luck? (I am sure it is the same for the Z6.)

Here is some advice on firmware updates: https://www.zsystemuser.com/nikon-z-system-news-and/firmware-updates.html

Nothing about WB.
Thanks for the info. (We have to be careful when updating, for sure.)
The level of complexity of the digital camera software today is at such a level that every time they release a new version they can introduce a few new bugs. Boeing engineers are not alone struggling to avoid the 737 software regression.
Did anyone try this WB Preset Manual to shoot a white paper? Or, am I missing some steps?
