About two weeks ago I noticed my Macbook wouldn't wake up when I pressed any of the buttons any more,
I now have to press the power button to wake it up. Also, it has been closed all day but it is actually quite warm,
sitting doing nothing. I have run first aid on the disk with no errors found.
The only process that was still open was Google chrome - though, since it started with the wake up fault
recently I don't think it is a problem with any of the processes running.
One search brought up a solution as being "reset SMC" but I was hoping somone more knwledgeable would
have a look at the specs first and give an opinion.

As a data point I have a 2019 16-inch MBP still on Ventura and this does not happen We leave Safari and Chrome running with LOTS of tabs. Never an issue.

Google Chrome will still have processes running even after you quit it (Helper, etc). Do a cold shutdown and reboot (vs restart)?

I "reset the SMC" and now it wakes up if I press the return button. I'm hopeful that means the heating
issue will be fixed as well.
After shutting down you hold "shift, control, option" and the "power" button for 10 seconds, then release them
and press the power button to start it up again.

I use a little app called 'Core Temp' to check my cpu's temp. Works nice, not sure if it will work on a mac or not but there should be some similar app for the mac.

Lukewarm this morning, not cold like when it is off but just barely perceptible warmth with chrome shut down. I still had to push the power button to wake it up. I do wonder why Finder is showing an active window when none are open.
