:866::866: It is late Tuesday night, but will post more Wednesday morning. Just wanted to let folks know this time was successful!!!!

What a great day! Our daughter arrived safely in Doha, Qatar and your D7100 combo seems to work. What could be better?

Well, maybe if somebody sent me that complete Nikon N package

Hopefully you will find enough info in the "stuff" to let you know that you owe Nikon no money and that will explain what the issue is so others can get it fixed.

Thanks for the update.

Work Done

Checked it again this morning, AF perfect.

First of all the Service Order No is 6197020
The person in Melville that finally got things finished was Kimberly K. Her boss is Marie Chanice.

In all the visits nothing was found wrong with the camera
In the second visit some parts were replaced on the TC and the lens, but at the end, nothing was wrong with the TC.
The final visit, they sent the camera and TC back saying nothing was wrong, working normally. But they kept the lens.

RPL Main FPC
RPL DC/DC convertor
Adj auto focus operation
ckd communication
ckd exposure
adj MR Encoder Unit

I would be in touch with Kimberly at the main corp office using this phone number 631-547-4200 before sending anything in. If you are sending equipment in to the west coast side, ask Kimberly if there is a west coast person you can speak to before sending anything in, all the time quoting the service order number above.

If anyone has any questions please just shout . As far as payment. This last visit was no charge. The visit before this where they were charging me $420.00 for the lens, I still have as a dispute with my credit card company and will see what happens. But, in theory, you should only have to send in the lens, but see what they say first, if you are going to follow this through with your stuff.

Sounds good so far, all my appropriate appendages are crossed that it stays that way

If I were in your position, I would hound them for a "root cause". When I look at the list of parts they replaced, that sounds like a case of "throw it all up agains the wall and see what sticks". In other words, just replace stuff until it has no issues. Now, we should all remember that I am a crazy person when it comes to this, no sane person would spend the amount of time I will trying to get the "rest of the story", so it is completely understandable if you just stay happy with stuff that works

Congrats, this should certainly help others with the same types of issues.

Hmm, another thought here. We have seen at least one report of this happening with a different lens. Could even be a tolerance issue, where all the equipment is "in spec" but at the opposite ends of "in spec".

Search the entire thread, I seem to recall that someone, might have been PhotoLizard, reported issues with another lens.

Yes, Bill. That's me. I have trouble with the 300 f/4 AF-S plus teleconverters - all the Nikon ones I have, TC-14e, TC-17eII, TC-20e. It misbehaves exact;y the same as with my 500 f/4 AF-S II.

Regularly use D7100 and that lens plus 1.4x and 1.7x converters with no AF issues.

Thanks Aaron for the response my 300mm f4 AF-S is quite old probably a very early one and doing more digging last night sounds like it suffers from an grounding problem that Nikon did a ground wire repair on ? same for early 70-200 VR's too it does look electrical as display does jitter a little too so guess my d7100 is not quite pushing the power like my d7000 did or just more sensitive ?

Has anyone else with problems been in touch with the contact that Nancy posted?

Nancy, any further specifics on root cause or that, in my opinion, "highly questionable" $420 charge?

Inquiring, and Enquiring, minds you know

Bill I have left my dispute with the charges with the credit card company, so we will see what Nikon does.

No, I still do not know what exactly was the problem, but my guess is it had to be with the DC/DC converter that they replaced or/and the MR encoder which they adjusted. Those were the only things they did differently on the last visit.
