I know you can still get the full version (standalone) on Amazon, but I was under the impression that you could only upgrade thru the Cloud.

But!!

Trust you to find a way!! :joyful:

I'm going to try it tonite when I get home from work - thanks, Karen!! :D

I don't know if it will still work....but worth a try!

You won't need CS6 to open the raw files if you have LR, but I plan to use CS6 for many, many years to come. I ain't going to the cloud any time soon! LOL! I'll keep up with LR when, and if, I get a new camera that forces me to upgrade in order to process raw files.

I found this link to the CS6 upgrade today.....didn't try it.....

I have the d7100, d300 and d700.. the D7100 is slower than the D300 which I also use in good light as you know the D300 suffers ISO wise.. ISO 800 is a challenge where the D7100 works fine much higher for the PNW where I live and the skies can be :"cloudy all day".. so when I moved from Georgia, I needed higher ISO than the D300 offered. I use both on my wildlife adventures but like the D7100 small size for backpacking and hiking.. I do not like that the controls are different than D700 and D300 so will probably sell the D700 and get a D610 as the size , controls and weight are key as I hike alot into the mountains and weight does matter for me as each mile goes by.. Other than slower FPS than the D300, the D7100 is a good fit for me do to the small size and weight and the things it can do very well.

I'm not going to the Cloud, either! I'm going to upgrade to CS6 in the morning. Nothing wrong with LR; it's just that I have more experience with PS.

Size and weight had a lot to do with my decision to purchase a D7100. I love to travel and whenever I go, invariably there is a lot of walking involved. And while I love my D300, after a while it can start to feel like a tank, as you well know.

Thanks, Socrdude; tomorrow's the day!! I just hope my house is the first stop on Big Brown's delivery route! :)

I just received my delivery 20 minutes ago. My initial thought is that the D7100 has a nice solid feel to it. I was also surprised to notice that it's heavier than I thought it would be. It's definitely lighter, however, than my D300.

I ordered the camera from B&H and the package came with "free" accessory packet, which included an extra battery, a Sandisk memory card, and a camera bag. An NX2 Viewer cd was also included.

The battery is currently in the charger and later I'll be making some first shots with it. Stay tuned! :D

Lyndee, you will have a lot more room in the highlights with the D7100. I shot nearly all my Clarksville eagle shots with the D7100 this year. Even when the blinkies show you will be able to pull out detail. I found with mine that I have to actually dial in a +EV frequently, compared to the -EV I dialed in for the D300. If you do any burst shooting, make sure to have the 95 mb/sec cards. They make a huge difference. Try this one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007NDL56U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_9?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Thanks for the info, Aaron and those Clarksville shots were stellar! With my D300 I was used to dialing in -EV, so I'm really interested to see what happens with the D7100. And with the accessory package I received with the camera, B&H sent me a 16mb Sandisk card. I also ordered another one, as well, so it looks like I'll be pretty good starting out.

Tonite has been the first chance I've had to check out my new toy. I'll be doing some shooting tomorrow to see how it works!

I'm sure you already figured it out, but just in case, in order to change you AF settings you need to press the AF selector button (bottom left front).
It's a bit odd coming from a D300, but now it seems to be a good idea.

West - I'm finding there's a bit of a learning curve here. :D

I went out this morning to shoot, and although I had the manual with me, I kept saying, "now what does this do???"

This is such a change from the D300. I'll keep plugging away at it, though.

It'll start making sense soon. I use mine mostly for birds. But it will also do snakes,

Aaron - you do critters well (and flora!).

I find that I'm having a "moment" with the D7100. I know it's going to be a great camera, but boy, it's intimidating the heck outta me right now. In fact, I went back to the D300 yesterday (and what happened with that is a looong story). I'm going to keep at it, though, and eventually there'll be a breakthrough! :)

What are you finding challenging? I switched from a pair of D300s to a D800/D7100 pair, perhaps we can help provide some guidance along the way.

I think it's just the transition process (The AF settings, I will admit, did throw me for a loop). I went thru the same thing when I upgraded from the D80 to the D300. For awhile after I got the D300, I wouldn't even look at it, the thing scared me so much.

Bill - when I formulate all of my questions, I'll shoot you a PM. And Randy, don't worry - I'll be asking you, too! :D

I'm not aware of any mysteries with the D7100. Here's a 30 second lesson which should be all you need:
- AF settings with a push of the AF button and turning wheels.
- Set it on Aperture and F8 (change F# based on DOF required)
- use AF-C outside and AF-A inside (light AF assist)
- set it on JPEG and M size (unless your a highly paid pro printing murals :))
- adjust sharpness to about 7/10 contrast 6/10
Everything else is as before.
Enjoy :vulcan:
