I have owned it since the day after release, it has near, or possibly over, 100K count on the shutter (haven't checked in a while). I have never cleaned it.

I have blown air on it a couple times (dog hair or large dust) but i have never cleaned it with a swab.............

I don't do a lot of lens swapping in the field, my 300mm or 11-16mm are usually glued to it, my "new" 70-200 VR-I is glued to it right now :p

when i change lens i always point the camera down and mate the lens

i have checked it at F22 a couple of times thinking "it MUST need cleaned" and seen some small small stuff but nothing i could find in any real photos.

don't know maybe I'm just crazy? also been a little hesitant to mess with the sensor :p

Mine is similar, what little cleaning it needed, a blower has been more than adequate, whereas my D7100 has been wet cleaned twice already. Maybe the self-cleaning shake mechanism is better on the D300.

it good for sure I always turn of camera off and back on a few times to get stuff off, and if that didn't work then i did "mup air blast" (MUPAB)

I had my D50 for years, and I never cleaned it either. I did use the rocket blower as well, but that was about it.

Not sure why, but my D300 never needed cleaning like my D2x and D4. I think I swabbed it once, and even then it was just a single pass and done. The D2x and D4 OTOH, go thru 12 swabs each/cleaning, just can't seem to keep the gunk off them.

I never had to clean my D50 either. I've had to do a rather substantial cleaning on my D7100 already though. I can only imagine its related to the felt like substance in the camera body in front of the mirror. I keep it laying on its side in the camera bag. Perhaps the knocking around while on its side sheds some specs off from the felt? Not sure.

I never needed to clean my D40, D3100, or my wife's D3000. I have sent my D7100 out twice in one year for cleaning. It may have to do with the amount of use I give my D7100. I have taken more images with the D7100, then the others combined. I do change lenses in the field a lot, so that could be part of it. We shall see how my new D610 does.
