I thought I better scan some of my old slides before they degrade to much - still learning

Those look pretty good to my eyes. Especially nr 4, what is in those containers the man is carrying over his shoulder? What about the weight also?

thanks, we used to joke to visitors that there were full of water - and it would be fun watching the reaction. I understand that it is lightweight type snacks

The slides are a wonderful time capsule! Glad you are converting them to digital.

I did that years ago, but used a Nikon LS scanner....

These look excellent to me. You had high quality slides ro start with.

What sort of apparatus are you using to hold the slides?
Thank you Jim, The set up is pretty simple, I use my iPad with a screen light app (free version), and opaque glass on top to disperse the tiny bright spots from the lights. Rocket blower to blow dust, QTips (cotton buds) to clean the slide using isopropyl alcohol. I have a Sigma 105 macro - obviously any macro lens would be OK. On the camera I set a 2 second delay to minimise vibration and use the touch screen to set the shutter going.

Vey clever. I never thought of that, but then I've never had an iPad.

I rigged up a more elaborate scheme a few years ago that worked pretty well. Then I got a Nikon ES-1 Slide Copying Adapter.

Excellent scans ... and very interesting subject matter. I also really appreciate your "how it works" post. Ingenious.

Although I keep looking, I fear almost all of my old slides have been lost. Sad, I am. I would like to be able to relive those moments as you are.

Cheers!!

do you mean physically lost, or lost by degradation. Lots of mine especially the old colour film negatives showed a lot of colour loss etc, but with careful photoshop work they can be revived

In the next few days I will put here an image of my setup as it presently is. ES-2 attached to 60mm micro-Nikkor and D850 set up for Colour Negative. I will use Tripod for camera and mono pod to position a LED light behind the ES-2. Have tested today but with no tripod and pressed against the window on a beautiful clear day.

Still don’t seem to have got colour right, but as for a very quick and dirty test to see if the ES-2/D850 works magic, I am very happy. I used Apple Pixelmator Pro for all the editing.

Any ideas as to White Balance and colour gratefully taken if given.

Be learning from my errors in first use of the Nikon ES2 and 60mm micro lens.
This next shot is of our family pet Cindy from the 80’s, a really lively and fun companion. Original B & W film.

I am not familiar with pixelmator pro - I use photoshop almost exclusively. If you have a dropper with white balance in your program, use the dropper on something that looks like it should be white or neutral and that should help

As an Engineer, I was fascinated by the Bamboo scaffolding in some of these shots.

A fantastic set, of everyday life.
