I updated my web gallery with a few more samples from the R-D1.

I use this camera now as my sole photographic tool.
When I got it used from a store in Shanghai, it looked like new. The edges were cosmetically painted with black paint, which has worn down by now.

I run in with a good set of batteries now, that hold for 150 frames a charge for 6 EUR each ;-)

I have found my dream lens during my first weeks with a digital rangefinder and feel the first time after finding a photographic tool a satisfying happiness, not followed by the desire of wanting more stuff to add to my bag, but rather selling more unused things ;-)

I have acuired green loctite and brushed up my camera repair skills to finally adjust the R-D1 rangefinder to spot on focus with my 50 Lux and the 35 ASPH. Somehow, I got lucky and the more or less unused 90 Elmarit fits too.

This all is a strange and interesting development, I could not foresee, when I wanted "to try rangefinder" and bought my first Leica M some months back.

I want to thank Steve from the DPR Leica forum especially, who told his story about switching from a D700 to Leica rangefinders, which was inspiring, when I asked him for this more than a year ago. He got me hovering over this Leica forum ever since.

But no, my Nikons hold still a valid place and some specific cameras will not go as of todays planning ;-)

If you like, have a look at my website. I show in my blog "the waiting dog series" and update it now also more regularly.

Love the 1st picture. You captured the expression on the kid just at the right time. For some reason, I seem to have better "decisive moment" shots with my rangefinders. With my SLRs, I seem to have a talent for capturing the momemt when they blink their eyes.

Nice set, I love the grain in the second one. Looks better as digital grain than my M8 produce. I agree about the Nikon, I will never sell my D700, it´s my digital machine!

Talex, thank you - I shoot the R-D1 now completely as a film camera and do not chimp anymore. This speeds up the shooting and does not distract me anymore.
When I saw the frame of the boy and mother, I was struck, that he looked right into the lens. He has a very deep and touching view. I would have loved, to have had a wider lens on the R-D1 at that very moment

I am glad, you like it Fredrik.
I don't want to shock you (I was, when I processed this frame), but the shot was made @ my favorite ISO of 1600, underexposed by 2 stops.
I then corrected exposure in Lightroom by 2 1/2 stops, choose a more contrasty curve, added vignetting (the 35 Cron has NO VIGNETTING ).

I wish, you could set ISO3200 and ISO6400 on the R-D1 natively - the grain is exceptional.

I wish, I could display the real quality of the R-D1 here, but I failed so far even with tight crops. When watching in Lightroom, the R-D1 noise has the shape of very fine fibres like the ones in a print on very rough paper.
All other digital captures, I have seen have blobs or pixels. The grain of the R-D1 surely is different.

When pushing the R-D1 files, there seems almost no limit. Where with other files, pushing by 2 stops brings out ugly blobs, the R-D1 fibre grain gets more and more character.
