Because you never know what things are fixed in these updates (Easter Egg type stuff) I always do it. Something could be fixed that they just don't mention for various reasons (like whoops, how come we didn't fix that before).

If I had an 800 5.6, I probably wouldnt be shooting with a D7000, just saying. Not an issue for me at this time.

Exactly right...

Many times they will deny there is a problem but will be secretly fixing it then
add it to the firmware unannounced... :wink:

A friend has started to get an intermittent fault on his D7000. Periodically it freezes & shows F6 on the display.
Not saying it was the firmware, could be coincidental, but started after the firmware was installed?

Anyone any other ideas as to cause please? He mainly uses the 300mm F4

I've shot about 200 exposures with the new firmware. Installed it the day I posted the notice about the change.

I haven't gotten any error messages or seen anything strange. But along these lines I learned something interesting about Nikon and their policies. But there might be justification for having the current firmware. It relates to future service of your gear.

One of the reasons that Nikon will not sell parts to 3rd parties or to customers is that they themselves use sophisticated software to test cameras and lenses in their own service centers. And there is some kind of legal regulation (in the United States -- at least) which prevents a manufacturer from requiring customers to buy new parts/software after the original sale.

But Nikon is always updating their own test software used in service. So without the latest test software, outside vendors can't adequately service Nikon gear. Now, this might be simply more of the street legend that surrounds the world of Nikon. But I like it anyway. I've always been fond of conspiracy theories. You know — alien abductions, crop circles. That kind of stuff. :smile:
