Shocked at What I Received From A.P.S.

My 500 f/4 was shipped early in July, and it was received by A.P.S. on 7/9/25 with the following issues. "Particles on glass INSIDE front element...Replace tripod foot screws...Check all functions...Clean...Replace screw that attaches lens hood." I got a call from them on 8/5/25 saying it was "completed and ready to be shipped". I gave my payment information, and it was approved. ($595.00) Today, 8/9/25, I received the lens back from them. The front of the lens still looks as it did when I shipped it. During a phone call in July, a technician advised me that the tripod foot screws could not be removed, and I advised the technician not to worry about that issue.

I'll be contacting them on Monday, but as anyone heard of something like this happening before with A.P.S.?

YIKES! Nikon Repair doesn't have a good reputation, but generally APS is much better! Certainly this is not acceptable.

Other than general speed, though that has changed since being an NPS member, Nikon repair has been pretty good. I was having a weird issue with my z9 concerning the camera locking up and freezing. They replace the controller board thinking that was the problem, gave a full sensor cleaning and shipped it back in 1 week. Turns out the problem was due to a bad memory card which I learned about 2 weeks after when the problem happened again.... I emailed them thanking them for the diagnostic and cleaning but asked why the $500 repair to a non-broken park, they refunded my repair charge.

Sorry to hear- certainly unacceptable outcome.
I used APS several times over the years, had a very good overall experience with them repairing several lenses and one body.
But that was 5-10yrs ago.
Good luck with the repair, you should not have to put up with that.

I had a cautionary experience with Nikon some years ago. I was speaking with a tech, and rolled my chair over my pup's foot! I yelled OH, NO! and saw to the doggie... no visible damage, but he still favors that leg, years later.😢 I apologized to the tech, and finalized arrangements to send my lens in. He gave me the zip code for the New York facility, instead of California, and it took 6 weeks and an interested supervisor to find and return my lens. But, that's just me.
The last service done on my camera, went very well!
