I used the D7100 1st for Ospreys this year and the AF blew me away it was so fast and accurate.....are you shooting AFC = Focus only and D9 ?

No way I'd sacrifice visible IQ because it does cost a lot to travel to these places but after traveling to Venice, Munich, Morocco, Yellowstone, Florida:smile:,.... in the last few months I have come to realize that Nikon's new zooms are capable of great IQ and offer a huge improvement in the fun factor.....but maybe it's because I'll soon be 62 and I'm just lazy:smile:

In any event I'm pretty set on my opinion that the D4 is for sports, the D800 for Landscapes and the D7100 for wildlife and the D7100 goes to Vancouver in November for eagles.

It could be sample variation, I had a D7100 for a while and it must have been a bad copy as it was not accurate shooting field sports with my 300 2.8 compared to using my D700...

I hate to say it, but I wish Nikon never came up with the idea of a D7xxx chassis. Because of it, we have no D400 and a gimped D600.

I would tend to agree with this. There were only a couple of things (that are critical to my shooting) that put me into a D7100 over the D5200 for a DX body. And I got these only because there is yet a pro-oriented DX.

In many ways the D600 suits me better, but I was forced to get a D800 due to the limitations of the D600. I see the same with those who want a D400, but have to settle with a D7100. Nikon giveth and then taketh!

for field sports I have noticed (more on the sig 120-300 that I just sent back) that it had some AF inaccuracies like focus stealing from another player in the play but I don't really care because I am back to shooting all sports with the D4 exclusively. I'm not even sure a D400 will get any sports time with me but it will replace my d7100 for wildlife.
