Yes, Lightroom and ACR are the exact same program just different interface and "cataloging".Do the numeric values for these parameters in LR mean the same as those in ACR?

FWIW...I compared the referenced settings to a D500 photo (properly exposed) taken at ISO 12,800 that I had already processed using DxO Pro Elite. These settings may work for newspaper print work, but result in quite a bit of loss of fine feather/fur detail....and there is still some noise in background. DxO did a much better job preserving fine feather and fur details.
Hi Karen. I have seen your work and I was always impressed with your results using DXO. I remember you talking about it some time back. I never got to tri DXO but I think I will invest in it.
Cheers.

Global application ?Anything over 6400 usually goes thru DXO Prime NR for me as well....
Example (D810 tho, not D500) - f4, 1/100, iso 12800:

Thanks! (Be on the watch for images from my recent trip to Kenya! LOL!) Download a trial and see if it works for you. Make sure you try the Pro Elite s/w that offers the Prime noise reduction. That's the one I use.
Some suggestions:
Even though DxO Pro is a raw processor, I only use it for NR, lens distortion and CA.
I created a custom setting for just these settings to be applied when a file is opened. I save the file as tif. Open tif in ACR and process raw as usual.
Also, DxO will try to act as a data base. This I do NOT want. LOL!
So......here is how I use DxO Pro.
- Open both Bridge and DxO and have both visible on the monitor (side by side)
- In DxO I create a new Project (lower left corner). You can use one project for all NR work or create separate projects.
- In DxO, there are two tabs in the upper left corner: Organize and Customize. Important! Click on the Customize tab!
- In DxO Customize tab, select the Project you want.
- THEN - in Bridge, select just the file(s) to which you want to apply DxO NR reduction. Drag them onto the film strip in the DxO Customize tab. Only the files you want to edit should show up in DxO....not the entire folder.
- Apply NR, CA and lens distortion corrections. Export to disk as tif files.
- In Bridge, open the tif file(s) and finish raw processing as necessary.
Global application ?
Fast ?
Can you get there via 'edit in' in LR and if yes I assume it works on a passed TIF and
returns same. I got a 1 minute rule![]()
NyetNyet - it does take a bit of work to get there. There is a flow with Lightroom but I never use it - I process them in DXO, export as TIF and then open Lightroom to finish it off.
I have a 2 minute rule with one exception - this type of image.
This particular set I thought I was actually shooting at 3200 and my wine-addled eyes betrayed me (and I didn't stop and check at any point while shooting)... :-P

I won't go down that hole. If it can't be launched from LR I'll pass. The only time I'd need it is for sports and that's typically 600 shots done fast. I also love the way LR manages all the files and stacks them in LR
THX
I'll have a look thenI think it can be launched from Lightroom, I just don't go that route... :-P There's a module there....I just don't use it...
Here's a link to DXO's recommended workflow:

I should probably give it a try one day since I prefer the catalog/library in Lightroom but the Prime NR in DXO is worth the price of admission in my opinion...
Read the tutorial, the pass looks like a kludge (a mess). It's not a tiff to tiff and any changes made in LR 1st are lost. If I had to use NR on a few files that would workWow Tim this is wonderful news. The new version can be used a plugin for Lightroom.
Thank you for the link Tim.
