I use the D5100 as a lightweight go-everywhere camera to supplement my D7000 and D300. Along with a 35mm, the 18-105VR, the 70-300 VR, a set of closup lenses for the 35mm, and a it makes a lightweight kit that can shoot almost anything.

It was with me on the day this car pulled into the parking space next to me in Northampton, MA. Voila!

Nikon D5100, Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX, 1/4000s f/2.0 at 35.0mm iso100

It is an amazing little camera that can do anything (almost) that the big guys can do, albeit in a maybe just a bit more time-consuming manner.
Nice shot Harry. Love the detail the 35mm produces

This is going to sound terrible to all of you guys/girls who use the D5100. I've had this camera, which I bought new several months ago (it was on clearance), has been sitting in the closet unopened!!! I just spent the last half hour looking at images and it's time to start using it!

Yes, yes it is. The D5100 was my first DSLR. We had lots of fun together, and now my older son is having a blast using it. I should probably break this up into a few posts. The D5100 can do food:

Russ – great expressions, nice and sharp!

The D5100 can also do action, as long as the light is good

Thanks Bruce, I like your action shots. Good to be in a warm place to be swimming.

Here are a few shots from my 90 gallon mixed cichlid tank. Please bare w/ me as this is the first time that I've shot in full manual mode. I was at 1/100, f5.6. Using my 18-105mm lens at manual focus, staying on 105mm. Enjoy...
